Glamour, Hijinks, and Generosity

October 1-4, the Los Angeles Convention Center hosted the second annual Longines Masters of Los Angeles. Thirty of the world’s best riders aboard champion equine athletes provided top-level show jumping, heart-pounding emotion, and an unparalleled class of entertainment and glamour. Ending the day on Saturday was the crowd-pleasing Charity Pro-Am and Competition. Before a star-studded crowd, professional riders partnered with celebrities to raise money for charities of their choice. All riders donned elaborate and far-fetched costumes, adding a bit of hilarity to their sporting performance, often with pre-competition hijinks. The pairs were judged on their show jumping, costumes, music, and choreography. This year’s winners were Darth Vader (Tracey Wade) and Luke Skywalker (Kaley Cuoco), who rode for Ride On. Alice in Wonderland (Hannah Selleck) and the Queen of Hearts (Jane Richard Phillips) competed for Just World International. Kent Farrington and Alex Crown were Gummy Bears for Autism Speaks. Jennifer Gates searched for Oz with Scarecrow Jack Towell for Thrive Animal Rescue. And young Red Riding Hoods were seen bribing the judges with baskets of goodies.
Let The Bing Crosby Season Begin
On Thursday, October 29, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club's Bing Crosby Season will kick off, bringing back the old-school Hollywood vibe on which the seaside oval was founded. Opening Day will feature the Fashion Event of the Fall as race goers are encouraged to show off their hottest Hollywood glam, in a contest for Hollywood's Best Dressed. Stunning beauties in vintage or the latest Hollywood fashion will contend for the title of "Most Glamorous" while high fashion modern duos or classic Hollywood pairs will compete for "Best Dressed Couple." Also vying for a crown will be "Best Celebrity-Look-A Likes." The first Saturday of the meet will feature wagering on the Breeder's Cup scheduled to take place at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky, and will offer a glimpse into the future, as Del Mar will host the Breeders' Cup races in 2017. So, get your glitz on, and place your bets - Del Mar will be ready! The season runs from Thursday, October 29, through Sunday, November 29. Gates will open at 11am Thursday-Saturday, and at 10am on Sunday.
