EQUESTRIAN ALMANAC HISTORY

As a life-long equestrian, I am completely smitten by their sheer beauty, their authenticity, grace and power. The honor they bestow upon humans in helping to progress our work and passion defies logic and inspires legendary tales.

One day, My friend, Daria who worked at the Rancho Santa Fe Association asked me if I would put together a list of training and boarding facilities for the association to help answer frequent questions from Equestrian’s new to the area.

Six months later I took her to lunch to give her what she had asked for. She could not have been nicer or more surprised to see a beautifully printed reference book for all things Equestrian. “Roblee, I didn’t want you to go to this much trouble our expense, I thought it would just be an email I could copy!”

Embarrassed… I responded, “that’s why it took so long, my Father taught me, if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” Daria was the inspiration and I knew what she wanted was truly needed, when I first moved to San Diego I knew very few people and it took almost 20 years to find the best of the best for everything I needed as a competitive Equestrian.

When horse shopping in Virginia under the tutelage of Hap Hansen, World Famous – Hall of Fame
Show Jumper and extraordinary human being I struggled with what to call my creation and finding the right horse.

As luck would have it, I was finally reading the biography of Benjamin Franklin as my paternal grandmother had told me my whole life we were related to him and after riding in the evening, exhausted from trying about every Hunter on the east coast I learned about my heritage. Benjamin Franklin had an amazing life (truly, a remarkably interesting life) but when I read that he created the Farmer’s Almanac to keep his presses printing between jobs I knew my Equestrian book had to be called …The Equestrian Almanac. Now my late-night passion project when not thoroughly enjoying working for my client’s family and Real Estate portfolio.
